From Injury to Pro Bodybuilder: How Charley Alexander Overcame Obstacles and Became a Successful Fitness Model

My Journey as a Professional Female Bodybuilder: Overcoming Obstacles and Achieving Success

Hi everyone, my name is Charley Alexander, professional female bodybuilder. I am pleased to share with my personal journey from an injured netball player to a successful female figure bodybuilder.  

It all started when I had a major knee injury that ruptured my ACL ligament while playing netball. To recover from the injury, I needed to build up adequate strength in my surrounding muscles to help provide support to my injured knee. I began working out in my local gym, building up my muscle and quickly becoming obsessed with lifting and all the positive changes that came with it. I fell in love with female figure bodybuilding and started my journey towards becoming a proud and professional bodybuilder of 7 years.

Overcoming All Odds

As many bodybuilders know, obstacles are part and parcel of the journey. One of the biggest obstacles I faced was caused by a fall from a horse which led to me breaking my collarbone just 10 weeks out from one of my bodybuilding shows. I was unable to lift any upper body weight for eight weeks before the show but I remained determined to compete, keeping my head down, focused on my diet and continued to do everything possible to prepare for the show eventually overcoming all odds to place second in the British finals.

This achievement was only made possible due to the discipline, internal motivation and mental strength embarking on a fitness journey teaches you. It really shows you what your made of and has helped me become a more confident and independent woman who is strengthened by a fantastic support system consisting of my family and coach who always encourage me to pursue my dreams.

"If you're just starting your own journey, my advice to you is for you to be ready to play the long game. It's a marathon, not a sprint. Treat it as a priority, and you will achieve success faster."

The physical changes I've experienced since starting this journey have been amazing. I am now stronger and more muscular than ever have been whilst still being feminine. Strong is the new sexy, and I'm proud of the time and effort I've put into sculpting my body. I'm full of energy, and every gym session is 100%.

Bodybuilding has also impacted other areas of my life, making me much more successful all round. I've progressed to a high-level area manager position at work and taken on numerous responsibilities as a hardworking and empowered female. Knowing my growth through fitness, I aim to inspire and motivate all women to be the best they can be.  

"Stay humble and grind in silence for you and no one else. Do it because you want to and not for any other reason."
