Ingredients:

Lentil Soup:

  • 2 cups of lentils
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 carrots, peeled and chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 6 cups of vegetable or chicken broth
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Wholemeal Bread Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of wholemeal flour
  • 1 and 1/2 cups of warm water
  • 2 and 1/4 teaspoons of active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of honey

    Directions:

    Lentil Soup

    1. Rinse the lentils and set aside.
    2. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat.
    3. Add the onion, carrots, and celery and cook until the vegetables are soft, about 5-7 minutes.
    4. Add the garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
    5. Add the lentils, broth, bay leaves, cumin, and paprika to the pot.
    6. Bring the soup to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 30-40 minutes or until the lentils are tender.
    7. Remove the bay leaves and season the soup with salt and pepper to taste.

    Wholemeal Bread

    1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and yeast.
    2. In a separate bowl, mix together the warm water and honey.
    3. Add the water and honey mixture to the flour mixture and stir until a dough forms.
    4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-10 minutes.
    5. Place the dough in a greased loaf pan and let it rise for about 30-40 minutes.
    6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    7. Bake the bread for about 30-40 minutes or until it's golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
